Chesapeake Sauna Builders was founded out of necessity (not trend-chasing).

After researching traditional Finnish sauna construction and personally experiencing years of poorly designed “hot box” saunas, it became clear that most outdoor saunas sold today simply don’t deliver what people expect. Poor ventilation. Undersized heaters. Shallow benches. Designs built to photograph well, not to use well.

So instead of buying another kit, we built a prototype the right way and Chesapeake Sauna Builders grew from that decision.

Outdoor Sauna Built the Finnish Way — Not the Influencer Way

A proper sauna isn’t defined by LEDs, oversized glass walls, or marketing buzzwords. It’s defined by how it feels during use.

True Finnish sauna design prioritizes:

  • Wet steam (löyly)
  • Proper ventilation
  • Correct bench height and spacing
  • Sufficient thermal mass
  • Long-term durability in outdoor conditions

Today, over 95% of sauna kits on the market miss these fundamentals. Many are promoted heavily by influencers because of marketing budgets — not because they perform well over time.

Crafted by Amish Builders With 30+ Years of Experience

Every Chesapeake sauna is built by a family-run group of Amish craftsmen located outside Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They’ve been constructing outdoor structures for over three decades and understand how wood, heat, moisture, and weather interact over time.

This isn’t factory production.

There are no flat-pack kits.

There is no rushed assembly.

Each sauna is built fully assembled, using proven construction methods designed for longevity, moisture management, and real outdoor use.

Every sauna is custom and handbuilt from scratch.
